Orange is the New Little Black Dress
Houston restaurant month just started, so I can imagine that I will be attending quite a few bougie dinners in the month of August. Plus, I'm greedy on the average Tuesday, so food outings are my thing no matter the time of year. I'm no stranger to the LBD and I am generally a fan of black, but it's summer so I like to switch it up when it's warm outside for summer nights in the city. For my recent night out, I reached for this tangerine colored mini dress with interesting spaghetti strap details in the back. This dress is one of my favorites because it's so darn easy to wear. It frames the body without the contour which is a major plus for dinner outings. I don't like to wear anything that will accentuate the food in my stomach after dinner. This dress fits the description because it's not a particularly tight dress, but it still manages to be sexy. I paired it with my clear lucite heels that I always use in place of a true nude shoe. It's hard to find true nude strappy sandals for my skin tone because nude ALWAYS equals beige. Sigh. I won't get into that. The point is that a clear heel that radiates my skin tone through the shoe is a good alternative to nude for chocolate and cocoa skin women. With a less bold color, I would have styled this with some sort of printed heel. However, the color on the dress is bold enough, so busy shoes would make it look like I was trying too hard. Again, the goal is effortless style.
The dress is no longer available because I hauled it from H&M during their end of season sale for about $15. You may be able to find it in store, so check their clearance racks because they tend to have tons of pieces in store that are not online. The shoes are from Steve Madden and are still available. The bag is from Suakoko Betty. Links are below.
